What's Covered
When a renter damages, loses, or fails to return your item during an active rental, toolshare's Lister Protection Policy may cover the documented cost of repair or replacement. Coverage is subject to the conditions set out in this policy.
Your Responsibilities
To submit a valid claim, you must meet all of the following:
- Report damage within 24 hours of the rental's scheduled end time.
- Report a non-return promptly — as soon as it's apparent, after making a reasonable attempt to contact the renter directly.
- Get approval from toolshare before paying for any repair or replacement.
- Take reasonable steps to prevent further loss once you're aware of an issue.
- Provide supporting documentation, including a police report for theft or non-return claims where applicable.
What's Not Covered
The following are excluded from coverage:
- Normal wear and tear.
- Pre-existing damage that was not clearly disclosed in your listing before the rental began.
- Lost rental income or other indirect losses.
- Damage resulting from use outside what your listing described, unless that use was explicitly restricted at the time of booking.
- Claims submitted without documentation, or reported outside the required time windows.
How Claims Are Reviewed
Submit your claim through toolshare's dispute process with item details and supporting evidence. toolshare will review the submission, which may include reaching out to the renter for their account of events. Reimbursement is funded through the item's security deposit, an authorized follow-up charge to the renter where applicable, and toolshare's damage reserve fund. All decisions are made at toolshare's discretion, based on the evidence provided.
